Calabash Street Elementary School is entering its twelfth  year of participating in the national reading enrichment program, "Books & Beyond." This year's theme is "Vote For Books" This is a great opportunity to foster a love of reading in your children. As we know, reading is a strong building block for the rest of a child's life. Children who read for pleasure achieve more academically. This exciting program is sponsored by our PTA and includes prizes for each level a student reaches, some of them generously donated.

  • Papa John's Pizza provides pizza for a lunch with the principal.
  • Vons gives certificates for a free cookie.
  • McDonalds gives a certificate for a free hamburger or French fries.
  • Every student who participates and completes all eight levels will receive an award at a special year-end ceremony.

In addition, two students will receive a reward for the most levels completed in grades K-2 and one in grades 3-5.
Students are required to keep track of the books they read with a record sheet. Grades K-2 must read 15 books to complete one level.
Each 20 pages count as one book. 3rd-5th graders must read exactly 300 pages per level.

On the links below, you'll find forms required to participate.
